In one sentence it means to be a
disciple of Jesus Christ. Being a Christian means that you
have encountered the true and living God and that you have undergone
a change in your heart and soul. To be a Christian means to follow
Christ, to desire Him, to fellowship with Him, and to bring glory to
Him in your life.
How to Become a Christian?
Acknowledge
You are a sinner and
totally separated from God.
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
- Romans 3:23
Understand
The penalty for your
sin is death.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal
life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
- Romans 6:23
Repent
Turn away from your
own ways.
"Repent ye therefore, and be converted that your sins may be
blotted out"
- Acts 3:19
Believe
Jesus Christ died to
pay for your sins.
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved..."
- Acts 16:31
Receive
Call on the Lord to
save you.
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved."
- Romans 10:13
Don't wait
You may not have
another opportunity.
"...behold now is the accepted time; behold now is the day of
salvation."
- II Corinthians 6:2
Right now you can
ask God to save you through Jesus Christ. He is not as concerned
with your words as He is with the sincerity of your heart.
You can pray
something like this:
"Dear God, I
acknowledge that I'm a sinner but I believe that Jesus paid the
penalty for my sins. I would like to turn away from my sin and
accept your free gift of forgiveness. I ask you now to be my Lord,
and to give to me eternal life. Amen."
If you are a new believer in
Christ, let us encourage you to:
Be assured
Eternal life starts
now.
"Verily, verily I say unto you, He that heareth my
word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and
shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto
life"
- John 5:24
Be renewed
The Lord has set you
free from the past.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new
creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become
new."
- II Corinthians 5:17
Be mature
God wants all of us to
grow in our walk with Him.
"But grow in
grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ..."
- II Peter 3:18
Be productive
The Lord has given you
unique gifts and abilities for use in His body, the Church.
"For as the
body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one
body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ."
- I Corinthians 12:12
